What Are Stages?
Stages are the steps in your workflow. On a board, each stage appears as a vertical column that helps your team track progress from start to finish.
Use stages to:
- Visualize where work stands at any moment
- Keep everyone following the same process
- Power automations or filters based on a card’s position
Example
On a leasing board, you might use stages like New Lead → Toured → Applied → Approved.

How Stages Work
- Each card sits in one stage at a time.
- Stages typically move left to right, representing progress.
- Completed work usually appears in the rightmost column (for example, “Closed” or “Done”).
- Cards move between stages manually or by automation.
How to View Stages
Each board in Aptly is made up of columns — one for each stage. You can scroll horizontally to view the full workflow from start to finish.
What You’ll See
- Column headers show stage names.
- Cards represent individual items (like leads, maintenance requests, or residents).
- As you move cards across stages, you’re updating their progress automatically.
Tips for Navigating
- The leftmost stages are early steps (for example, New Leads).

- The rightmost stages are final steps (for example, Applicants, Closed, or Completed).

Takeaway
Think of stages as your workflow roadmap — they turn complex processes into a clear, visual sequence everyone can follow. Use the board view to get instant visibility into where everything stands and what’s next.
