Making and Receiving Calls with Twilio in Aptly (Browser Calling)

Use your browser to answer calls with a connected Twilio line.

With Twilio browser calling enabled in Aptly, you can make and receive calls directly from your browser—no external phone or softphone required. This helps keep all communication tied to your contacts, cards, and workflows in one place.

Ways to Make a Call

You can initiate a call from multiple areas in Aptly. The experience is the same—only the entry point differs.

Option 1: From the Global Menu

  1. Click the + (plus) icon at the top of your screen
  1. Select New Call

Option 2: From a Contact

  • Open a contact record
  • Click the phone number to start a call

Option 3: From a Card

  1. Open a card
  1. Click the airplane icon
  1. Select Call

Using the Dialer

Once the dialer opens:

  1. Select your Twilio line
      • If you’ve set a default phone line in your profile settings, it will be selected automatically
  1. Confirm your call method:
      • Your profile phone number may appear
      • Use the dropdown to select Call from Browser
  1. Enter or confirm the phone number and place the call

If this is your first time using browser calling, you’ll be prompted to allow microphone permissions before the call connects.

During a Call

When a call is in progress, it will appear at the bottom of your screen.

You can expand the call widget to view additional details, including:

  • Contact information
  • Previous conversations (calls and SMS)
  • Related:
    • Cards
    • Locations
    • Events
  • A space to add notes or comments during the call

This makes it easy to stay informed and log important details in real time—especially useful when handling leasing inquiries or coordinating with residents and vendors.

Receiving a Call

When someone calls your Twilio line:

  1. A call notification will appear in your browser
  1. You’ll hear a ringtone (if permissions are enabled)
  1. Click Answer to accept the call

Your browser must be open, and microphone permissions must be enabled to receive and answer calls.

During an Incoming Call

Once you answer, you’ll have access to the same contextual information as outbound calls:

  • Contact details
  • Ongoing and past conversations
  • Related cards, locations, or events
  • Full communication history tied to that contact

This allows you to quickly understand who’s calling and respond without needing to search for information.

Why This Matters for Property Management

Having calling built into Aptly helps your team:

  • Respond faster to leads and resident inquiries
  • Keep communication centralized—no switching between tools
  • Access full context instantly during calls
  • Log notes and track history for better follow-up and team visibility

Important Notes

  • You must allow microphone access to make and receive calls
  • Your browser must remain open for incoming calls
  • If you’re part of a shared line, calls will ring based on your availability and ring settings

With Twilio browser calling in Aptly, you can:

  • Make calls from contacts, cards, or the global menu
