Board filters in Aptly help you narrow down cards to see only the information you need. When filtering by date fields, you can apply special criteria to find cards based on past or future dates.
This guide explains how to use date-based filters and what each operator means.
Understanding Date Operators
When setting up a date filter, you’ll see options like Greater Than or Less Than. These define whether the filter looks for dates before or after a specific point in time.
Operator | What It Means | Example Use Case |
Greater Than | A date AFTER the selected value | Show tours scheduled after today |
Less Than | A date BEFORE the selected value | Show move-ins scheduled before today |
Greater Than +X Days | A date AFTER X days in the future | If today is Thursday and filter is +2, it shows anything after Saturday |
Greater Than -X Days | A date AFTER X days in the past | If today is Thursday and filter is -2, it shows anything after last Tuesday |
Less Than +X Days | A date BEFORE X days in the future | If today is Thursday and filter is +2, it shows anything before Saturday |
Less Than -X Days | A date BEFORE X days in the past | If today is Thursday and filter is -2, it shows anything before last Tuesday |
Real-World Examples
Here’s how this works in practice:
- Show cards for events coming up soon
- Example: Tours happening within the next 3 days
- Filter: Date Field → Less Than +3 days
- See overdue tasks or past events
- Example: Work orders scheduled before yesterday
- Filter: Date Field → Less Than -1 days
- Find upcoming move-ins scheduled after this week
- Filter: Move-In Date → Greater Than +7 days
Using Exact Date Ranges
Sometimes you need to find cards within a very specific window — like cards created exactly two weeks ago.
To do this, use bracketed dates with both a Greater Than and Less Than filter:
- Example: Cards created exactly two weeks ago
- Less Than today +/- days: -14
- Greater Than now +/- days: -15
This setup only returns cards with dates exactly between 14 and 15 days ago, excluding anything older or newer.
Tips for Success
- Always check whether you’re using future (+) or past (-) days when adding values.
- Use Greater Than and Less Than together to define a date range.
- Test your filter by previewing results to make sure it captures the correct cards.
