How to Assign Paired Locks to a Unit

Quickly link a paired lock to the correct unit so showings, access, and resident permissions work as expected.

Quickly link a paired lock to the correct unit so showings, access, and resident permissions work as expected.

Prerequisites

  • The lock is already paired with Aptly and shows as Active.
  • The unit exists in Aptly and is set to Active (not archived).
  • You have permission to edit Locks/Access (ask your admin if you don’t see the options below).
Tip: Battery level reflects the last sync with the lock. If a lock hasn’t been used recently, the battery reading may be from its last connection.

Steps

  1. Go to Locks
    1. Navigate to Locations → Locks (direct link: https://www.app.getaptly.com/location/locks).

  1. Open the paired lock
    1. Click the lock you want to associate. (Locks must be paired with Aptly first.)

  1. Add a unit
    1. In the lock’s Details panel, find Lock Unit, then click the icon next to Units (or Lock Unit).

  1. Search & select the active unit
    1. Type the unit name/number, choose the correct (active) unit, and confirm. (Click Save if prompted.)

That’s it! The unit name will display under Lock Unit, and the lock card will reflect the unit association.

Verify it worked

  • Lock Unit shows the selected unit on the lock’s Details panel.
  • The lock appears in Active with the expected Mode (e.g., Tour vs Resident).
  • Test by initiating the lock function to lock or unlock the unit.

Troubleshooting

  • Can’t find the unit in search
    • Ensure the unit exists, is Active, and you’re in the correct property/portfolio. Try searching by a shorter keyword (e.g., just the number).

  • “Add” button is missing/greyed out
    • Confirm the lock is paired and Active, and that your role has edit permissions for Locks/Access.

  • Wrong unit selected
    • Remove the unit from Lock Unit and repeat the steps to attach the correct one.

  • Battery level looks stale
    • Battery level updates on the next BLE sync; wake the lock (use/access it) to refresh.

FAQs

Q: Can one lock be linked to multiple units?

A: No. A lock can only be associated with one unit at a time.

Q: Do I need to re-pair the lock to change units?

A: No. Remove the current unit, then add the new unit; re-pairing is not required unless the lock was unpaired from Aptly.

Q: Does this affect showing auto-approvals?

A: Yes. Associating the correct unit ensures the lock is used for that unit’s showings and resident access flows.
