Step 1: Enable the API & Copy Instructions for Claude
API access is enabled per board, so you'll need to do this for each board or process you want Claude to access.
1a. Open Integrations for your board
- Navigate to the board you want to connect in Aptly
- Click the plug icon (🔌) in the top toolbar — this is the Integrations button
- In the Card Sources modal that appears, click API
1b. Enable API access and copy instructions for Claude
- On the Card Sources / API page, you'll see a toggle that says "API access is disabled for this board"
- Click the toggle to enable API access for this board
- Once enabled, click "Copy instructions for Claude" This copies a ready-made set of instructions to your clipboard that tells Claude everything it needs to know about this board — including your API key, the board's connection details, and what actions Claude can take. You'll paste this directly into Claude in Step 2. No additional setup is needed. With this in place, Claude will be able to:
- Read cards — list and search cards on this board
- Create or update cards — add new entries or edit existing ones
- Add comments — post notes directly to a card
- Upload files — attach documents or images to a card
💡 Connecting multiple boards? Repeat Steps 1a–1b for each board you want Claude to access. Each board will generate its own set of instructions — paste them all into Claude in Step 2.
What about "Create New Key"?
You may notice a + Create New Key option on the API page — you do not need to use this for the Claude setup. The instructions copied in Step 1b already include a working API key.
Creating a new key is only relevant if you're connecting Aptly to other tools (like Zapier or Pabbly), want to set a key with a specific expiration date for security purposes, or need to rotate an existing key. For connecting to Claude, the copied instructions are all you need.
Step 2: Add Your Instructions to a Claude Project
A Claude Project is where you store your board instructions so every conversation automatically has access to them — no setup needed each time.
- Open Claude and go to Projects → Create a new project or open an existing one
- Open Project Instructions and paste in the content you copied in Step 1b
- If you enabled multiple boards, paste each board's copied instructions one after the other
- Click Save — every new conversation in this project will now have full access to those boards
💡 For other API connectors like Rentvine: Repeat the same steps above with your API details, either in the same project if you want to have access to the same information simultaneously or a new one.
You're All Set!
Once all the steps are complete, open a conversation inside your Claude Project and try asking:
- "List the most recent cards on the Owner Leads board"
- "Create a new work order card for [property name]"
- "What's the status of card [Card ID or Title]?"
