Got a vendor needing access? Here’s how you can create and manage passcodes for your Aptly smart locks with ease. Think of this as your digital key ring for all those who need temporary access.
How to Create a Passcode
You can generate two types of temporary codes: One-Time Codes and Time-Period Codes. These are perfect for vendors, contractors, or prospects.
- Open the specific lock card in your Aptly dashboard.
- Click the plus sign (+) next to Lock Passcodes.
- Choose between a One-Time Code or a Time-Period Code.
- One-Time Codes are valid for one day and expire at the end of your business hours.
- Time-Period Codes are fantastic for vendors who need access over a longer period, like during a unit turn. You can set the start and end dates—for example, for a three-week renovation project.
- Select who the code is for (e.g., an external person like a vendor or a prospect) and click Send.
Setting a Master Code: Your Digital Master Key
For those rare occasions when you need to override everything, every lock has a master code. This is your "skeleton key" for the modern age, overriding resident privacy mode and any other settings.
Do not share this master code with anyone outside of your team.
First, a quick permissions check:
- Go to Settings in the bottom left corner of Aptly.
- Click on Company Info & Team, then Roles & Permissions.
- Edit the Admin role (or any other role that needs this superpower).
- Under Aptly Access, enable the Viewing Master Codes permission.
Now you can access the master code:
- Open a lock's card.
- Click the three dots in the top right corner.
- You'll now have the option to Set a Lock Master Code or View it.
