Create a card from an inbox conversation when you want to track an email on a board. This is useful for a one-off request, such as a maintenance issue or a request that belongs in a different workflow.
You can choose the board, complete its card fields and keep the original conversation linked to the card.
How to Create a Card From an Inbox Conversation
- Open the email in your inbox.
- At the top of the conversation, click the Create Card icon (it looks like the boards icon).
- If the Suggested Cards panel appears, review the existing cards before creating another. If none is the card you need, select CREATE CARD beneath Not Related? to continue creating a new card. To connect the conversation to an existing card instead, follow How to Relate and Unrelate a Conversation to or from a Card.
- If a message about conversation visibility appears, review it before continuing. Only proceed if the stated visibility is appropriate for the conversation.
- Select the board where you want the card created.
- Any new card fields or start card fields configured for that board will appear on the right side.
- Use these fields to pull relevant details from the email.
- The email subject or body will automatically populate the card’s Notes or Description, depending on the board setup.
- Fill in any remaining fields, add files if needed, and click Save.
Once saved:
- The card is created on the selected board
- The email is linked to the card via the Related tab
- You’ll remain in the inbox (you won’t be redirected to the board)
After Creating the Card
Confirm that the card was created on the intended board and that the conversation is linked in its Related tab. Continue tracking the request from the card.
If your team handles the next steps from the card, you can archive the conversation according to your team’s workflow.
